Chapter 9

Adrian found his mother in the Kitchen, looking out the window like she expected hid dad to come up the path. She did the same thing every night and it broke his heart. She loved him so much that she even now she waited for him to come.
“Mother, I need your help.” No point in beating around the bush with his mother, she could read him like a book anyway.
“What is my sweet, you look terrible.” She said taking him into her arms like he was still 10 years old.
He stepped back, he needed his dignity as well as her love.
“I have lost someone, and I need her found.” He knew this wouldn’t cut it with his mother but he was rushed for time.
“HER?” his mother smiled that knowing smile at him and it made him inwardly groan, he never could hide anything from her, now she would be hell bent on wanting grandchildren.
“Yes, her. Her name is Rowan and I lost her, well actually someone took her and I can't locate her.” He said slumping in the chair, waiting for the grilling to begin.
But it didn’t, instead his mother took a chair and slumped into it too.
“We have been through this Ad Xavier, you know I can't find her.” She said as tears spilled over onto her cheeks. Xavier lifted his eyes to meet hers.
“Not that Rowan, another one. This one is Human.” He confirmed before his mother got too immersed in her thoughts of what they had done to find the elusive princess.
“Another one, are you sure? You don't think it's a bit of a coincidence that you find a girl called Rowan and she has been taken and even you can't find her?”
His mother had a point, but he was certain that this Rowan was just a human, she showed no signs of being a vampiri hybrid.
“I'm sure. She is just human, but she is important to me and I want her found. Will you help me. please.”
“Of course I will locate her for you darling, you know I will. Do you have anything of hers that I can track?”
“Yes I brought the jumper she had on today.”
“Perfect, that will do nicely.”
He watched as his mother close her eyes as she worked on finding Rowan. The look on her face was truly terrifying, but he didn’t want to interrupt her while she worked. All he could think about was what they were doing to his Rowan while he was sitting here on his backside doing nothing. HE couldn’t stand the thought of someone touching her never mind hurting her. God help them all if they hurt her, because they were going to have to kill him or they were all going to die. If they thought Adrian Vasily was a terrifying name they hadn’t seen anything yet, he had never been so hell bent on vengeance and destruction before, his current mood would even have Dracula himself quaking in his fangs.
His mother opened her blood red eyes and shook her head.
“Are you sure this is Rowans?”
“very, she had it on today, I saw her in it.”
His mother rubbed her temples, she looked to be debating something.
“What is it? What aren’t you telling me?”
“I don't know, but who ever had this on is not a human and I can't get a lock on her. Can you bring me something else?”
“Yes, I know where she lives, but this is definitely hers. Try again.” What was going on here, Rowan was human, he would have sworn his life to it, he hadn’t even picked up on any magic in her.
Some humans carry magic within them but she had nothing, not even a spark, the spell she had put him under, not withstanding, that was just his reaction to her. But could it be that she was his kind, that she had been cloaked? If that was so, then, could she be the Rowan they had spent years looking for?  And the reason no one could find her was the magic cloaking her.
Well hell. Hadn’t his life just got way more complicated? He was in love with the only woman that could save his father and return his family to what it should have been.
But didn’t that mean that he would never be able to love her? Wouldn’t she be off limits to him? Her father would surly string him up and gut him if he laid a hand on her. Thats if he didn’t do it just for looking at her.
How was he going to tell her who she was and give her up to something she knew nothing about? How could he live with himself if he didn’t try to save his father, and in doing so crush any chance he had with her.
He groaned as he got up to go get something else from her bedroom. His mother must be mistaken because if she wasnt he didn’t know what to do. Save his father and give up on love or save Rowan and give up on his father. How were you mean to choose?
HE returned with her her pillow, this had definitely been her he couls still smell her on it. It was strong and his mother should have no problems finding her with this.
He handed the pillow over and waited for his mother to do her thing. He had managed to convince himself on the way to get it that who ever took her had touched her Jumper and that why his mother was picking up on the none human eliment, it had to be.
“I have her son.” His mother said not opening her eyes “but your not going to like what I have to say about her.”
“What is it, is she ok, have they hurt her?” he said pacing the floor, getting more and more angry that he had wasted time instead of looking for her.
“She is fine as far as I can tell, she is unharmed but...”
That but  didn’t sound good, he stopped his pacing and planted his hands on the table to stop from destroying the kitchen.
“BUT...” he asked “What, what have they done to her?”
“Nothing, it's not what they have done to her, it's whats awakening inside her. She is the Rowan we have been looking for.” His mother said opening her eyes and pinning him with hope.
He couldn’t believe it, his worse fears come to light. Jesus could he pick em or could he pick em.
“How. Why now, why are you able to locate her now?”
“She is strong Xavier, her powers are such that I have never seen them before, she has been bound and she should not be able to break that binding on her own, yet she is doing it and because of this I can locater her. Her power surges are hard to miss, if you looked now even you would see, she is like a beacon. She will have every know vampire after her now, she is not safe here, you must find a star and get her back to her family. Only they can save her.”
Yeah they could save her, but what about him? He didn’t want to live without her. But if it was a choice between her dying and his happiness, he’d chose her, every time. So he would save his father and her too by giving her over to her family, and in turn breaking his heart. Which had already given up the ghost and was bleeding pain into his chest.
His mother gave him her location and he set off, he would rescue her from whoever sought to harm her and then find a star. That brought a whole new set of problems, where the hell was he meant to find one, he had never been able to before. Dam it all to hell and back, why was he even bothering? He hadn’t seen his father in 16 years and Rowan wasnt likely to thank him for what he was about to do to her. He couldn’t win for losing today.
He crept into the building, an old castle he had seen  but hadn’t thought anyone lived in. Craigmiller castle had been derelict for years but as he climbed the wall he noticed the building had also been cloaked to look derelict when infact it was nothing of the sort. Just who was he going up against?
He searched through room after room not finding her but he did however find that all elusive star he needed, just lying like a paper weight on a desk, strange that someone would leave such a valuable item lying around, it spoke volumes of who he might be going to war with, and he wasnt sure now, that he’d be strong enough to rescue her, and keep her alive long enough to save her. Placing the star securely in his inside pocket he continue his search, hopefull he would find her alone and he could get them out undetected.
***
Rowan sat in the same room she had awoken in, her ‘father’ had left her to digest the information he had dumped on her, saying that he had things to do tonight to keep her safe. He had however bloody locked the door effectively keeping her hostage and she was raging about it. Nothing that she could do but sit and wait for him to return.
Hearing a noise she got up and went to the door.
“Rondolph, if thats you , I'm not hungry or thirsty but I want out of here.”
“Rowan?”
It wasnt Randolph, it was Adrian, she would know his voice anywhere.
“Adrain, in here. The door is locked.”
“Stand back.”
She did as he said but instead of the door flying off it's hinges it just popped and he held it in his hands, like it weighed nothing, as he looked at her.
“Are you ok?” he asked putting the door to the side and coming to her.
“I'm fine, how did you find me?”
“it's a long story, and one that I will tell you as soon as we get out of here, come on.”
He said taking her hand and dragging her with him until she planted her feet firmly and refused to budge.
“Wait a minute, I have heard some rather disturbing things tonight and I want answers from you before I go anywhere with you.”
“We don't have time for that now, unless you want me to fight our way out of here and probably end up killed for it, you will keep quiet and fill me in later.
“Oh no you don't, I'm not some toy you can command.”
“Rowan, please, this is serious, it's not a game, your life is in danger here. I'm trying to help”
“funny, thats exactly what Meridian said, so who am I to believe?”
She could have sworn that Adrian went ramrod stiff for a moment at the mention of the name. He swung around to face her and before she could protest, had her in his arms, his lips clamped over hers and he was flying. Literally flying she thought. But after a second of noticing what was going on she was lost to his kiss, it consumed her and set fire to her blood, she wanted more of him, she wanted everything he had to give her. Dizzy and breathless, when he finally let go of her lips, she didn’t scream or protest anymore, he was not going to hurt her that much she was sure of. But really, how could she be sure of anything at this point, nothing made sense, it hadn’t since last night and now it was even worse.
***
Adrian set her down when he had them a safe distance from the castle, he had some explaining to do and for this he need her on her own two feet and not in his arms. He wouldn’t be able to do it holding her, he wanted to run with her and never have to tell her about who she was or why she had to leave.
He paced in front of her trying to find the right words to say and coming up blank every time he looked up to start the conversation, her huge green, trusting eyes, had him tongue tied and aching.
“Rowan.”
She stepped into his arms and held his face in her hands.
“I trust you Adrian, you don't have to say anything else.”
“You trust me?” He laughed. God if only she knew what he was thinking, she wouldn’t be so free with her words of trust.
She didn’t respond with words, she kissed him, really kissed him and he couldn’t do anything other than hold onto her, he was coming undone at the seams, he wanted her to stay with him, a groan escaped him at how wonderful she tasted, like sunshine and happiness, but knowing she couldn’t stay, he pulled back, only to have her whimper when his lips left hers. what the hell, one kiss isn’t going to do any harm he thought and returned to kissing her, he would savour this moment for all the dark days that were sure to follow. Running his hands over every inch of her and burning her shape to memory he revelled in her softness, lost himself in her warmth, and want nothing more than to burry himself deep inside her and hear her groaning his name as he made her orgasm again and again. but he wouldn’t get any of that, he should be grateful that he had this kiss to keep him warm at a night.
He pulled back from her before he lost complete control of his will.
“We have to get you out of here.”
“were are we going?”
“To my mother, she will know what to do.”
“I know what I want to do and it's not something we can do infront of your mother Adrian.”
He groaned, she really shouldn’t have said that, not to him and not while all he wanted to do was make love to her until she begged him to stop. Shaking his head and breathing deeply, he lifted her into his arms again and took off with her. It didn’t matter is she thought he was too fast at this point it was mute. She would soon be surrounded by it.
Bursting in the door he called for his mother knowing they had little time before Meridian came looking for her, the son of a bitch.
“Mother!”
“I'm here not need to shout. Oh you have her, good now you just need a starr.”
He pulled it out of his pocket.
“I only have one though, it will only transport her and I don't want her to go alone. I want to make sure she is safe and that they let Father go, if they have him. I need to find another one.”
“ not necessarily.”
“what are you talking about you know only one can travel.”
“not if you are joined, then you only need one, oh and what a rush it is.”
“I don't understand?” then it dawned on him what she was saying and he was sure his face flamed. No way could he do that to Rowan, just to ‘ride’ her starr with her, but he did need to keep her safe.
“NO, it will never happen, so just stop that thought right there. I will find another one.”
“Um, I am here you know” Rowan piped up still cradled in his arms.
“It's so nice to finally meet you my dear, My Ameera, Xaviers mother.”
“So it's true! I'm your cousin?” Rowna said.
“What...... NO” Adrian grunted “What gave you that Idea?”
“Meridian said he was my father and your uncle. That would make us cousins.”
“Yeah it would if he were your father, but thankfully, he is not.”
“Oh my head hurts.... why is this happening to me? did i hit my head and I'm now in a dream i can't wake up from. If it is I just want you to know that...”
“What do you want me to know Rowan?” Xavier asked surprised at her sudden break.
“ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” she screamed putting her hands to her eyes, her whole body going rigid in his arms and then she floated right out of them. What the hell? She was floating in mid air, energy crackling like it wanted to fry her as her screams rent the air. He felt completely helpless; he tried to hold her hand only to be zapped across the room.
“Mother”
“It's ok Xavier, this is what I was talking about, she is stripping her bindings. She will be fine in a moment, but you have to get her out of here, you don't have time to wait and you don't have time to look for another starr, if you intend to go with her, there is only one way.”
He groaned, his mother was right, with this much power surging, she would be hard to hide while he looked for another one, and with his uncle after her for god knows what, he had to act fast or they would both die.
He caught her as she dropped from mid air and carried her to his room, if he was going to do this it would not be in front of his mother.
